An online art installation that records the sounds of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
‘Sound of the Earth: The Pandemic Chapter’ is a new artwork by Yuri Suzuki in collaboration with Dallas Museum of Art created in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
The artwork is formed from a crowdsourced archive of sounds captured from around the world during the global pandemic. The collected sounds are integrated into an interactive digital version of ‘Sound of the Earth: Chapter 2’, the artwork created by Yuri for the Museum’s recent show ‘speechless: different by design’.
Over 500 people from around the world have submitted the sounds that they recorded—these include everything from ambulance sirens to waterfalls, as well as events specific to the Pandemic, such as the weekly 'Clap for Carers‘.
‘Sound of the Earth: The Pandemic Chapter’ promotes interactivity, fosters empathy, and—in a time of isolation—bridges the distance between us all through the medium of sound.
